about seeing goodness
It's been more than 15 years since Seeing Goodness was first conceived. Its original intended usage was a bit different. Yet, the motive and desired outcomes have remained the same. We know that we can benefit from seeing more goodness, love, and kindness.
This Seeing Goodness project is not solely about wonderful acts of goodness and kindness. Surely, studies have shown that the more goodness, kindness and love we see, the more likely we are to conjure up the courage and inclination to repeat what we see. While we plan to provide stories and photos depicting goodness, we have another purpose as well. It's in the Seeing.
The world could use some healing, and it isn't going to happen on its own. People have an opportunity to change. On this website, equal weight will be given to learning to see differently: to recognize intent, to develop a greater awareness of the goodness around us using all of our senses, and, most importantly, tapping into our tender and receptive hearts and minds. There is so much goodness within us, known and unknown.
How will we do this? We're not so sure, yet. We're novices at this as well. We invite you to join us on the journey to discover how we can become better human beings.
There's some unlearning to do. We want to recognize and remove some of the filters through which we each see and hear the world. With a greater sense of awareness, we might open ourselves to some of the discomfort that comes with change. We open up opportunities to growth as we evolve. There are experts to find. Those experts may be practitioners; they may be researchers; they might be animals or little kids. Thankfully, there are many stories to tell. And we'll need to ready ourselves for transformation with sound mindfulness practices. Those are both fundamental to this practice and to profound changes in many or all areas of our lives.
What if we showered the world with love, kindness and goodness? What if it made a difference in how we treat one another, the planet and Earth's other inhabitants? What if we were kinder to ourselves? It's worth a try. Let's start now.
